Born in 1951 to an army family. and educated at St. Xavier’s Jaipur, St.Stephen’s Delhi, and St. Catherine’s Oxford( attended as a Rhodes Scholar). Decent academic career all through and represented both Delhi and Oxford Universities in athletics. Worked as lecturer in Delhi Univ, as a tea planter, Editor for the OUP, and briefly as an executive with Hindustan Lever before becoming a schoolteacher. Was Housemaster at the Doon School, Headmaster of the Lawrence School Lovedale, Principal of the Selaqui School Dehradun and Heritage School Kolkata and finally retired as Principal of Welham Boys, Dehradun. As Principal, participated in National Equestrian events and won a bronze medal ( whilst implanted with a pacemaker). Created medical history of sorts with record nos of heart procedures and cancer to boot. Married to Indrani ( since 1980), also a schoolteacher. Two daughters, Diya and Shama, both working in Mumbai and Pune. Currently ” retired” in Dehradun.
